Creative Gift Idea: Handmade Tie Snake Draft Blocker

Would you like a creative gift idea for dad, grandpa, your husband or any other men on your Christmas list?  How about keeping him and everyone else warm this winter with a tie snake draft blocker.  A tie snake is is a great way to recycle all those unworn ties.   A creative gift idea indeed!

Here is what you will need:
*One of dad’s old ties (or check out thrift stores)polypropylene pellets or bean bag chair filling.
*Sewing machine (you could also sew by hand if you don’t mind the extra time it will take).
*Scissors
*Thread, wiggly eyes, red felt, glue

1.  Sew up the narrow end of the tie so nothing will fall out of it.

2.  Sew the back of the tie closed to create a tube.  The wide end of the tie will still be open.

3.  Pour the pellets into the tie until full.

4.  After the pellets are in the tie, sew the open end of the tie so that it is completely closed.

5.  Create a forked tongue by cutting it out of red felt.  Either glue or sew the tongue to the tip at the wide end of the tie.

6.  Glue or sew on a pair of eyes.

Polypropylene pellets are the same pellets used in stuffed toys.  They are non-toxic and can be washed, however but you don’t want small children or pets to eat any of the pellets.

Wide ties make the best draft blockers.  If the only ties you can find are too thin, try to sew two or three ties together to make one fat tie. This will also make a very interesting tie snake.

So there you have it, a tie snake to use as a draft blocker!  A creative gift idea sure to please the man in your life who has everything!
